Holiday Light Parade!!!
The annual Hoilday Light Parade in Presque Isle December 7, 2013 was a blazing success! Lights and music filled a large portion of Main Street between 6 and 8pm.

Presque Isle was a busy spot on Saturday. December 7, 2013. There were Christmas activities all day but everything came to a halt at 6:0pm when the Presque Isle Police Department, State Sheriff and United States Border Patrol cars pulled on to Main Street to lead the 24th Annual Holiday Light Parade from North Street to University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Entrants from Fort Kent to Mars Hill joined to make this year’s parade one to remember.
Led by the Lights for Life horse drawn wagon, in memory of Tom Clukey, the parade stopped at Clukey’s Auto Supply to light the Christmas Tree that will remain lit throughout the season. Through Lights of Life, individuals, businesses and organizations can purchase lights to remember or honor survivors, family and friends of survivors, caregivers and others. Lights may be purchased anytime through December 31st in person at Clukey’s Auto Supply locations in Presque Isle, Caribou or Houlton or on-line at www.tamc.org. Names of those being honored will be displayed at Clukey’s Auto Supply and on the TAMC website. Lights are being sold for: white, $10; red, $25; yellow, $50; green, $75; blue, $100; and orange, $150. This year gifts are designated to help create a fund to provide support to patients in need, offering assistance for expenses such as travel for those undergoing treatment for the devastating disease.
The judges charged with selecting the best use of lights, people and originality had a tough challenge. The parade held such a selection of creativity and displayed so many hours of work.
The results, tallied after an hour of deliberation resulted in the following list of winners:
Parade Champion – Ground Perfection Specialists Inc., Best Business Float-Walmart, Best non- Profit entry – University of Maine at Presque Isle, Best Faith Based entry – Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, Best General entry – Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race.
The Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the many groups and businesses who participated in the parade. You are the ones who make the event such a success and for the past 24 years have attracted thousands to Presque Isle on the first Saturday of December.

My desire for ‘Green’s Corner’ was to tell a story of the people of Presque Isle. In fact, there are many stories within this painting. Each character has something to say, whether it is one of the two ladies about to cross State Street, the boys running up from the skating area at the Presque Isle Stream, trying to leave little brother behind, or the mother and daughter gazing in the F.W. Woolworth’s window at the Christmas tree. I can imagine the little girl leaning in to her mother’s side, hoping for her favorite toy from Santa.” “While Green’s Corner is the focal point of the image, I was attracted to all the store fronts and the signs on both the Main Street and State Street sides of the Klein Block, thus my decision to portray the buildings at the chosen angle. They are a reminder of a time gone by. “I hope that everyone who views this painting can see a part of their own history in it. Enjoy!” ~ Lisa Desjardins
